Our Baby Ducks

We came back from the holidays to a very sweet surprise on our school field. We had a very special mumma bird who had baby ducklings! We have really enjoyed watching them grow over the past few weeks and they are getting quite big. We are learning to take care of our duck family and keep them safe. Mumma has been noticing that our classroom bays are a safe place and we have seen the duck family come and sit in the shade right next to use while we are outside working. This morning, Georgia and Faith ran the drinking fountain to give them some more water to drink/play in and shared bits of their breakfast.

May the Force Be With You!

This term, the students at Pt England School are studying physical science. On team 3 we are learning all about how forces and energy help us everyday. We are going to have heaps of fun learning all about the six simple machines that help us do work easier by lowering the amount of force we need to apply in order to conserve our energy.

Check out the amazing video that our teachers created for our Term 4 Immersion Assembly!

My Own Superhero

The amazing children in Year 4 have been working very hard to illustrate and possibly animate a line from the song My Own Superhero by Shawna Edwards. We have grown to love this song and it has become on that we feel empowers the students in Room 15 and 16 to believe in themselves no matter the circumstance.

We hope you enjoy!

What is a Taniwha?

This week, the literacy students in Room 16 have started to learn all about Taniwha. Today, we discussed what we already knew before we watched a movie about taniwha. Then, we had a discussion about the things we learnt about taniwha and created a brainstorm on the whiteboard.

Here is a picture of our brainstorm hanging in our classroom.

Anzac Biscuits

This past week, the students in Room 16 have been learning all about the importance of Anzac Day. We also read the story “Anzac Biscuits” by Phil Cummings and completed a writing task based on the illustrations of the story. We ended our week with a maths lesson on measurement by making Anzac biscuits with a group of our classmates. Before heading home for the day, we each got to try two of our amazing biscuits! They were so yummy! Check out our recipe below and let us know if you try making them yourself at home.

Term 2 Immersion: Matilda

This term, our theme is Transformers as we learn to transform ourselves into a character when we are presenting a dramatisation. As part of our whole school Immersion Assembly, the teachers on team 3 reinacted their own version of a scene from the musical Matilda. We had a lot of fun putting this together. We hope you enjoy!

Class Birthday Pictograph

This week, we have been learning all about Statistical graphing and we created a class pictograph showing all of our birthdays. Can you see how many birthday we have in July? There are three more that are on the back of the page! What a celebration we will have that month! Isn’t it interesting that we have no birthdays in January or December in Room 16?

Remember: A Pictograph is a graph made out of pictures to show the data from a survey.

Sensitive to a Smile

This year, the students of Room 16 have enjoyed singing, dancing and making each other laugh. So, for our 2023 Manaiakalani Film Festival Movie, we decided to recreate the Aotearoa Raggae All Stars video of their song “Sensitive to a Smile.” We hope you enjoy seeing our smiling faces!  We also love reading our blog comments, so please leave us one!

Term 2 Immersion: Changes Matter

Welcome to Term 2! This term, our school there is Changes Matter and our team focus question is:

What do we notice when matter changes? We will be doing lots of different experiments and talking about what we notice when matter changes between liquid, gas and solid form.  Check out our Team 3 “Reaction Video” to some pretty cool experiments we found.
